FutureB-
Larceny in the Round 5 slot lands the Bears a B, Fifita and all. You build a draft on nights like this. Noah Fifita had no business being available in pick 148, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If Membou pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer in pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick33
Rnd2
Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at the 33rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick52
Rnd2
Luke Lachey
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke Lachey. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jordan Hancock
They did well to land Jordan Hancock in the 70th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88
Rnd3
T.J. Sanders
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where T.J. Sanders graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick101
Rnd4
Riley Mahlman
They went early on Riley Mahlman in Round 4, Pick 5, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Noah Fifita
A quarterback of that caliber at pick No. 148 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick212
Rnd7
Bru McCoy
The board had Bru McCoy higher than slot 212, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214
Rnd7
Armand Membou
Armand Membou at No. 214 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
