The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Carnell Tate, the No. 20 name on the board, sitting there at the 140th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
