Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureC+
A passer of the future in Ward, and a D-, for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here. Reaching for Walker left real value on the table behind him. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick4 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In slot 4 they get a three-down runner at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 1: Colston Loveland for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris in the 66th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67 Rnd3 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at pick No. 67 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick95 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Andrew Mukuba in pick 95. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick104 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
They paid a round early for Emery Jones Jr. in No. 104, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133 Rnd4 Kobe King
They did well to land Kobe King in the 133rd pick, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick179 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
A straight-up fair deal on Quincy Riley at Round 6, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick192 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 192nd overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
