Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB-
The Patriots won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Patriots were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Every board in the league had Cornelius lower, and that gap is the story. Hancock falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In the 24th overall pick they get a problem off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at No. 38. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick69
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in the 69th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
No drama and no debate, Ozzy Trapilo went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
They did well to land Jared Wilson in pick 106, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick144
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Value said wait; Ajani Cornelius in pick No. 144 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick217
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 1, where Donovan Edwards graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
Circle this one: Tahj Brooks at slot 220 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the 238th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
