Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Patriots robbed the room for Bassa. Final grade: A-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jeffrey Bassa got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at Round 7, Pick 4.

The cost of the Walley reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In No. 22 they get a mismatch in the passing game. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in the 43rd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick57 Rnd2 Tyler Baron
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Baron. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick77 Rnd3 Deone Walker
Deone Walker in pick No. 77 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick104 Rnd4 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild slid further than he should have, and pick 104 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jaylin Noel
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Jaylin Noel. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick143 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
Steal is underselling it; Cam Skattebo at the 143rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217 Rnd7 Andres Borregales
The board fumbled Andres Borregales all the way to Round 7, Pick 1, and they scooped it up. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jeffrey Bassa
Somehow Jeffrey Bassa was still sitting there in pick No. 220, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick238 Rnd7 Justin Walley
Justin Walley at slot 238 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
