The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Smith: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Brashard Smith, the No. 105 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 226. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Vinson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at the 43rd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Fair-plus on Andrew Mukuba, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick99
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at pick 99 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick111
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette at the 111th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at No. 137 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd5
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at pick No. 138 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 6, Pick 10 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick226
Rnd7
Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in Round 7, Pick 10 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
