Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB- TradesD FutureB-
The 49ers let Thieneman fall into their laps, and walked away with a C+.

The 49ers lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thieneman. They will answer for taking cornerback early while running back, quarterback and other spots went begging. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

If Wright pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Hit on Sonny Styles and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at the Round 1 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick59 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
They barely believed it either: Dillon Thieneman still on the board at No. 59. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick95 Rnd3 Devin Moore
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Devin Moore at the 95th pick is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Lance. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick127 Rnd4 Logan Jones
By-the-book stuff, Logan Jones at pick 127 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick133 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Davison Igbinosun adds a cornerback and leaves running back, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick135 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in the 135th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Beau Stephens
No drama and no debate, Beau Stephens went about where he belonged in pick No. 138. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick165 Rnd5 Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts in Round 5, Pick 27 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick169 Rnd5 Kaleb Proctor
They paid sticker price for Kaleb Proctor in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171 Rnd5 Dae'Quan Wright
Dae'Quan Wright in pick 171 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick207 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
A quiet steal in slot 207: Oscar Delp for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jeff Caldwell
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 244th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
