Mr Maauto DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs

Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Keilan Robinson, 84 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Simpson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with wide receiver, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In slot 29 they get a building block for the line, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick61
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in No. 61 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick92
Rnd3
Cade Stover
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, tight end and other spots to take Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick129
Rnd4
Kamal Hadden
By-the-book stuff, Kamal Hadden at pick 129 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
A reach on Jordan Jefferson in the 161st overall pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
You do not let a cornerback like Jaylin Simpson reach the 171st pick and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick175
Rnd5
Christian Jones
A conviction pick on Christian Jones at pick No. 175 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick207
Rnd6
Walter Rouse
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Walter Rouse. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick250
Rnd7
Keilan Robinson
They talked themselves into Keilan Robinson at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
