FutureB
The Chiefs checked most of the boxes and earned a B. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Walter Rouse at the Round 5 slot is 87 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. However the rest shakes out, Oladapo at that price is a win they earned.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In No. 28 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60
Rnd2
Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks at pick No. 60 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick128
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
A wild overpay on Theo Johnson in Round 4, Pick 28, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick161
Rnd5
Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse at the 161st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at pick 171 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick177
Rnd6
Christian Jones
They went early on Christian Jones in No. 177, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick206
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nathaniel Watson well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249
Rnd7
Evan Anderson
Evan Anderson in the 249th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick252
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
Fair-plus on Dwight McGlothern, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
