Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-

The Chiefs did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Zakhari Franklin in Round 7, Pick 32, a good 33 spots before the room expected him. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They banked enough surplus on Mims to cover a lot of smaller sins. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Tyler Nubin
In the 31st pick they get a two-high chess piece, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jermaine Burton
Jermaine Burton at Round 2, Pick 31 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims at slot 94 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
The board had cheaper options than Darius Robinson at the 131st overall pick, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick163 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
No edge and no loss on Kamal Hadden in pick No. 163; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick171 Rnd5 Devin Neal
By-the-book stuff, Devin Neal at pick 171 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick175 Rnd5 Miles Frazier
They paid up for Miles Frazier at pick 175 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick209 Rnd6 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at the 209th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252 Rnd7 Zakhari Franklin
Zakhari Franklin at No. 252 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
