Arron Rodgers DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs

Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall

ValueC
NeedB
TradesC
FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Chiefs: C+. The Chiefs treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 252nd overall pick on Justin Eboigbe a full 85 spots early.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simpson.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick Analysis
Pick52
Rnd2
Trey Benson
No edge and no loss on Trey Benson in slot 52; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick63
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell in No. 63 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94
Rnd3
Jaylin Simpson
They read the board right and Jaylin Simpson was the payoff at the 94th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick131
Rnd4
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in pick 131 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick157
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
A reach on Kamal Hadden in pick No. 157; the board had better options right there. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jordan Burch
A wild overpay on Jordan Burch in Round 5, Pick 27, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171
Rnd5
Miles Frazier
This one needs a full-page explanation: Miles Frazier in pick 171, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick175
Rnd5
Tre Harris
A conviction pick on Tre Harris at Round 5, Pick 39 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick209
Rnd6
Theo Johnson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Theo Johnson well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick252
Rnd7
Justin Eboigbe
A real head-scratcher, Justin Eboigbe in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
