Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA FutureB-
The Chiefs did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

Hard to follow the map here. The Chiefs bypassed tight end, quarterback and other spots to take Cade Stover at the Round 3 slot, a spot they had covered. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Jones falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They are betting Beebe proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Troy Franklin
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick61 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick 61 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94 Rnd3 Cade Stover
A curious use of slot 94. Tight end, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a TE-EDGE in Cade Stover did not.
Pick129 Rnd4 Kamal Hadden
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kamal Hadden. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick161 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
They paid sticker price for Kitan Oladapo in No. 161, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick171 Rnd5 Michael Barrett
A conviction pick on Michael Barrett at the 171st pick that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick175 Rnd5 Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis in Round 5, Pick 39 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick207 Rnd6 Christian Jones
Christian Jones slipping to the Round 6 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick250 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
A straight-up fair deal on Walter Rouse at the 250th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
