You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Lions did exactly that with Eric Gentry in No. 222.

They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
