Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureD-
The Patriots bet the future on Maye. The board says B-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The Muhammad III value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
Drake Maye in pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick32 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick103 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
They took Matt Goncalves at par in the 103rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick140 Rnd5 Dylan Laube
By-the-book stuff, Dylan Laube at pick No. 140 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick147 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
They paid sticker price for Theo Johnson in slot 147, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick181 Rnd6 Justin Walley
Justin Walley at the 181st overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick188 Rnd6 Moose Muhammad III
Moose Muhammad III in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick224 Rnd7 Akheem Mesidor
A straight-up fair deal on Akheem Mesidor at No. 224, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick231 Rnd7 Ja'Had Carter
Ja'Had Carter in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
