FutureC
Grand theft in slot 224: the Dolphins steal Brooks and grade out a B. The real work happened on the phones. The Dolphins fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
Brooks falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Trent Williams pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In No. 13 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick48
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in Round 2, Pick 16 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick98
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Value with a capital V on Deone Walker in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick116
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard is a better player than the 116th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Emery Jones Jr. at the 135th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick150
Rnd5
Logan Brown
A tidy little value on Logan Brown in pick No. 150, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick155
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
The board had Pat Bryant higher than the 155th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks in Round 7, Pick 8 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick231
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
Kobe Hudson in slot 231 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick253
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ja'Corey Brooks in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
