Adam DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears

Grand theft in Round 3, Pick 8: the Bears steal Walker and grade out a B. The Bears spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jalon Walker, the No. 23 name on the board, in No. 72. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In slot 10 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Circle this one: Kenneth Grant at the 39th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to pick 41, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach pick No. 72 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick148
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
LeQuint Allen is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
