Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueC NeedB- TradesF FutureF
Conviction outran the board for the Bears, and it cost them: F.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 166 spots for Aaron Lewis, and value like that does not grow back.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Johnson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
By-the-book stuff, Brock Bowers at pick 4 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick7 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick No. 7 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick12 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In the 12th pick they get a disruptor off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick13 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick36 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu at slot 36 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick65 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
They robbed the room for Roman Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at No. 71 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at slot 75 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick101 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
They reached into another round for Ben Sinnott, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick111 Rnd4 Christian Mahogany
They read the board right and Christian Mahogany was the payoff at the 111th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick112 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
A real head-scratcher, Luke McCaffrey in Round 4, Pick 12 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick113 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
A reach for Johnny Wilson in pick 113; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick125 Rnd4 Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson at the 125th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick132 Rnd4 Brennan Jackson
A wild overpay on Brennan Jackson in pick No. 132, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick140 Rnd5 Justin Eboigbe
They paid up for Justin Eboigbe at Round 5, Pick 4 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick141 Rnd5 Nehemiah Pritchett
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nehemiah Pritchett at the Round 5 slot is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick143 Rnd5 Tanner McLachlan
They talked themselves into Tanner McLachlan at the 143rd pick, and the board did not agree. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick145 Rnd5 Michael Pratt
Nice patience on Michael Pratt, who had no business lasting to pick 145. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in slot 147 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick156 Rnd5 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zion Tupuola-Fetui well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick166 Rnd5 Javontae Jean-Baptiste
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Javontae Jean-Baptiste. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at the 176th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick179 Rnd6 Trajan Jeffcoat
A big swing on Trajan Jeffcoat at the 179th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick180 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 180 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Caedan Wallace
A tidy little value on Caedan Wallace in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick188 Rnd6 Logan Lee
They left a pile of value on the table to take Logan Lee this early at slot 188. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick190 Rnd6 Myles Cole
This one needs a full-page explanation: Myles Cole in No. 190, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 34, where Jared Wiley graded well above the range. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick210 Rnd6 Jaden Crumedy
Jaden Crumedy at Round 6, Pick 35 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jowon Briggs
They reached a country mile for Jowon Briggs at slot 214, and the board is aghast. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick215 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
A straight-up fair deal on Josh Proctor at No. 215, value and slot in agreement. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick221 Rnd7 Andrew Coker
Value said wait; Andrew Coker in the 221st pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick224 Rnd7 Cornelius Johnson
The board fumbled Cornelius Johnson all the way to pick 224, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick225 Rnd7 David Ugwoegbu
David Ugwoegbu in pick No. 225 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick227 Rnd7 Eyabi Okie-Anoma
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jordan Strachan
Jordan Strachan at the 229th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick237 Rnd7 John Morgan III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, John Morgan III well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick238 Rnd7 Devin Culp
A big swing on Devin Culp at pick No. 238, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick241 Rnd7 Carson Steele
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Carson Steele. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick244 Rnd7 Aaron Lewis
They reached into another round for Aaron Lewis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick249 Rnd7 Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 249th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick253 Rnd7 Dominique Hampton
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominique Hampton. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick254 Rnd7 Hayden Hatten
A wild overpay on Hayden Hatten in Round 7, Pick 34, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick255 Rnd7 Spencer Sanders
This one needs a full-page explanation: Spencer Sanders in slot 255, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick257 Rnd7 Jackson Sirmon
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Sirmon a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
