FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Packers a B-. The war room fell hard for Dwight McGlothern, and it showed at Round 6, Pick 44: 30 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots went begging. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
However the rest shakes out, Beebe at that price is a win they earned. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick42
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
Nothing to complain about; Kamren Kinchens went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick57
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Calen Bullock at safety with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots open.
Pick88
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick No. 88 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick91
Rnd3
Ray Davis
A wild overpay on Ray Davis in slot 91, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick108
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at the 108th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick109
Rnd4
Max Melton
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at pick No. 109 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick135
Rnd4
Will Shipley
Will Shipley at No. 135 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick179
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights in pick 179 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick217
Rnd6
Darius Muasau
They took Darius Muasau at par in the 217th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick219
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dwight McGlothern. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick230
Rnd7
Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse at Round 7, Pick 10 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
