FutureD-
The Bills let McCaffrey fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Thirty-one other rooms let Luke McCaffrey slide, and the Bills were the ones holding the card at the 200th overall pick. Highway robbery.
Nugent has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 28 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick29
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot.
Pick30
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick 30 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick128
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
A clean, defensible pick in the 128th pick with a little surplus value in Johnny Wilson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt in Round 4, Pick 30 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick134
Rnd4
Isaiah Davis
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaiah Davis this early at slot 134. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
A quiet steal in No. 144: Jarrian Jones for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick160
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
A big swing on Drake Nugent at the 160th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick163
Rnd5
Khristian Boyd
Khristian Boyd at pick 163 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick164
Rnd5
Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy in slot 164 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick189
Rnd6
Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Value said wait; Javontae Jean-Baptiste in the 189th pick says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick200
Rnd6
Luke McCaffrey
Somehow Luke McCaffrey was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 25, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick201
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
They took Jared Wiley at par in the 201st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick204
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
You do not let a cornerback like Kamal Hadden reach No. 204 and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick205
Rnd6
Evan Williams
A premium they did not need to pay, Evan Williams a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick218
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Nice patience on Edefuan Ulofoshio, who had no business lasting to the 248th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
