The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Coleman: B. Thirty-one other rooms let Jonah Coleman slide, and the Bears were the ones holding the card at pick No. 226. Highway robbery. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Sturdivant reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
Abdul Carter at pick 15 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tate Ratledge in No. 39. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick42
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in pick No. 42 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick47
Rnd2
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell in slot 47 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick73
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
A quiet steal in the 73rd pick: Tyler Warren for less than the market said. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick148
Rnd5
Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick191
Rnd6
Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams in the 191st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick203
Rnd6
J.Michael Sturdivant
A reach for J.Michael Sturdivant in Round 6, Pick 28; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick244
Rnd7
Que Robinson
They will replay Que Robinson at pick 244 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
