lou1978 DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA-
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 103 spots for Fadil Diggs, and value like that does not grow back. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
That Lachey pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The phones were where this weekend was really won. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
No edge and no loss on Tyler Warren in Round 1, Pick 12; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the 39th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at pick 72 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick76
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at the 76th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick86
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They paid sticker price for Ozzy Trapilo in slot 86, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick125
Rnd4
Fadil Diggs
They left a pile of value on the table to take Fadil Diggs this early at No. 125. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick148
Rnd5
Anthony Belton
They will replay Anthony Belton at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
A big swing on Jay Higgins at Round 5, Pick 11, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
They read the board right and Jaylen Reed was the payoff at pick 199. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick233
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Steal is underselling it; Luke Lachey at slot 233 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick240
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
A straight-up fair deal on Ty Hamilton at pick No. 240, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
