Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureC+
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jay Higgins at the 148th pick regardless, 55 picks early.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They banked enough surplus on Thornton Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In No. 12 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland slipping to slot 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Walker in the Round 2 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick44
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon in Round 2, Pick 12 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick51
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in pick No. 51 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at the 58th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick79
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick122
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
They will replay Lathan Ransom at pick No. 122 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in slot 148 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick204
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 204th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
No edge and no loss on Jermari Harris in pick 233; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick239
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
The board had Carson Vinson higher than Round 7, Pick 23, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick240
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They did well to land Isaac TeSlaa in No. 240, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick247
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at the 247th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
