Moore is the Raiders' new face under center. Grade: B+. The Raiders bet big and early on Jalen Thompson, 83 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
They have staked the next five years on Dante Moore, which is the only story that really matters here. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
That Williams pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Dante Moore
In pick No. 2 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick31
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick 31 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick36
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Good price on Emmanuel Pregnon in the 36th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick56
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
They paid sticker price for A'Mauri Washington in No. 56, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick63
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
No drama and no debate, A.J. Haulcy went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 31. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick67
Rnd3
Will Lee III
No edge and no loss on Will Lee III in slot 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Antonio Williams in slot 81, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick134
Rnd4
DJ McKinney
DJ McKinney at the 134th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
Blake Miller
Blake Miller is a better player than pick No. 150 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185
Rnd6
Rayshaun Benny
Value said wait; Rayshaun Benny in the 185th overall pick says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jalen Thompson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jalen Thompson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick251
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada at Round 7, Pick 35 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
