Hart should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a A-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Cam Hart, the No. 137 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 189. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If Rouse pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jer'Zhan Newton and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In pick 9 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick17
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamren Kinchens at the 43rd pick is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick111
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
No edge and no loss on Ainias Smith in the 111th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus in slot 123 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick142
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 142. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick151
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
A wild overpay on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in No. 151, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick189
Rnd6
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick195
Rnd6
Erick All
Erick All in slot 195 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick234
Rnd7
Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse at pick No. 234 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
