A respectable, level-headed haul for the Raiders: B. The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Jimmy Horn Jr., 115 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
However the rest shakes out, Winston Jr. at that price is a win they earned. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Mason Graham
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mason Graham in the 8th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick21
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In slot 21 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jahdae Barron
Circle this one: Jahdae Barron at No. 37 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and TreVeyon Henderson at Round 3, Pick 4 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea at pick 73 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick107
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard in the 107th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Skattebo in the 113th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick144
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
A safety of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick182
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at Round 6, Pick 4 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick214
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in No. 214 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick218
Rnd6
Jimmy Horn Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jimmy Horn Jr. in pick 218, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
