Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
A passer of the future in Mendoza, and a B, for the Raiders. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Leigh reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 2nd pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick22
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at fair value. More want than need.
Pick36
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
They paid sticker price for Olaivavega Ioane in Round 2, Pick 4, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick55
Rnd2
Germie Bernard
They took Germie Bernard at par in pick No. 55, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Austin Siereveld
A premium they did not need to pay, Austin Siereveld a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Blake Miller
Blake Miller in the 102nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at slot 117 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at No. 123 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick135
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
They read the board right and Trinidad Chambliss was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 35. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick176
Rnd5
Brenen Thompson
A quiet steal in slot 176: Brenen Thompson for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick181
Rnd6
Tristan Leigh
Value said wait; Tristan Leigh in pick No. 181 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick184
Rnd6
Bud Clark
Bud Clark in pick 184 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick219
Rnd7
Barion Brown
Nothing to complain about; Barion Brown went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
