Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Raiders drew a line under the quarterback search with Mendoza: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Trinidad Chambliss, the No. 122 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 1. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Fernando Mendoza gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. If Iheanachor pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at pick No. 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67
Rnd3
Brandon Cisse
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Brandon Cisse in the 67th pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
A reach for Monroe Freeling in No. 102; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick117
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
They reached into another round for Max Iheanachor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
This one needs a full-page explanation: Davison Igbinosun in slot 135, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick176
Rnd5
Keylan Rutledge
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 176th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick181
Rnd6
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick184
Rnd6
Ted Hurst
Taking Ted Hurst in pick No. 184 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick219
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman at pick 219 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
