FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the 49ers this weekend: B+. The Caden Curry selection is the head-turner. The 49ers reached 42 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The Kaleb McGary deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick57
Rnd2
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They did well to land Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick58
Rnd2
Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis in the 58th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
Nothing to complain about; Malachi Fields went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick89
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They reached into another round for Caden Curry, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Jack Endries in pick 127 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick133
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
They liked Kaytron Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in the 133rd overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick139
Rnd4
Kevin Coleman Jr.
They talked themselves into Kevin Coleman Jr. at the 139th pick, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Dametrious Crownover
Good price on Dametrious Crownover in No. 149, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206
Rnd6
Dallen Bentley
A tidy little value on Dallen Bentley in the 206th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239
Rnd7
Eli Heidenreich
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eli Heidenreich. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241
Rnd7
Nick Barrett
They went early on Nick Barrett in slot 241, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
