Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB
The 49ers won the night they stopped Polk from sliding. Grade: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ja'Lynn Polk got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at pick 94. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. If Ulofoshio pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes. A fair-value weekend of trading, no edge to be found.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
They let Amarius Mims come to them and pounced at pick No. 39. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in the 63rd overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick94
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Taking Ja'Lynn Polk in Round 3, Pick 31 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick101
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
No drama and no debate, Cole Bishop went about where he belonged in No. 101. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick124
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer in the 124th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick131
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick133
Rnd4
Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade in pick 133 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick176
Rnd6
Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy in slot 176 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick211
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
They jumped the gun on Frank Gore Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick215
Rnd6
Edefuan Ulofoshio
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Edefuan Ulofoshio. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick251
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
No edge and no loss on Sam Hartman in the 251st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
