The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Campbell: B. The Bears spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jihaad Campbell, the No. 40 name on the board, in the 91st pick.
Reaching for Walker left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at pick No. 28 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick29
Rnd1
JT Tuimoloau
In slot 29 they get a problem off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Deone Walker
Deone Walker in the 35th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emeka Egbuka at Round 2, Pick 7 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick41
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at the 41st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Watts at the Round 2 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in pick 72 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jihaad Campbell in No. 91, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Taking Zy Alexander in pick 97 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick147
Rnd5
Connor Colby
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Connor Colby well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
