Arcadiuz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Taaffe: B+. You build a draft on nights like this. Michael Taaffe had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In slot 31 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63
Rnd2
David Bailey
David Bailey in the 63rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick95
Rnd3
Spencer Fano
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 95 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick125
Rnd4
Kadyn Proctor
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kadyn Proctor reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jermod McCoy
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jermod McCoy in Round 4, Pick 31, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick169
Rnd5
Romello Height
Romello Height at No. 169 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick189
Rnd6
Taurean York
They will replay Taurean York at the 189th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick200
Rnd6
Eli Stowers
Steal is underselling it; Eli Stowers at pick 200 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick207
Rnd6
Lee Hunter
The board fumbled Lee Hunter all the way to pick 207, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick210
Rnd6
Akheem Mesidor
They barely believed it either: Akheem Mesidor still on the board at slot 210. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Michael Taaffe
Taking Michael Taaffe in No. 247 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
