For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The 49ers walked out of the weekend still thin at running back, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wheatley. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 2 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
