Overall B-

The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent pick 58 on Chase Bisontis, a name most had 45 spots down the list. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

Getting Coleman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
Caleb Lomu at No. 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis at pick No. 58 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Jonah Coleman
The board fumbled Jonah Coleman all the way to Round 3, Pick 28, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
Nice patience on Parker Brailsford, who had no business lasting to the 127th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick133 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick138 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris McClellan at pick 138 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick171 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson at the 171st overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
