After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Reaching for McCarthy left real value on the table behind him.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
