klondike DRAFTING FOR THEBills
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bills did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Shemar Turner, 27 picks early at No. 137.
The Everette pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Isaiah Bond
In the 26th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57
Rnd2
Clay Webb
A reasonable price with a little left over, Clay Webb in pick No. 57. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Deontae Lawson
Value with a capital V on Deontae Lawson in pick 63, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kevin Winston Jr.. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick113
Rnd4
Lander Barton
Circle this one: Lander Barton at slot 113 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick128
Rnd4
Daylen Everette
Taking Daylen Everette in No. 128 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick137
Rnd4
Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner at the 137th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick173
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
Good price on Oscar Delp in pick 173, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick179
Rnd6
Gentry Williams
They liked Gentry Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in the 179th pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in slot 200 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
