XCGBJK.;.;K,KL,MKMK DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+

FutureB
The Bears did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Patrick Payton at pick No. 126, a reach of 56 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Ramsey at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
In slot 16 they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56
Rnd2
Makhi Hughes
Makhi Hughes at Round 2, Pick 24 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Kamari Ramsey
Somehow Kamari Ramsey was still sitting there in No. 80, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick124
Rnd4
Monroe Mills
This one needs a full-page explanation: Monroe Mills in pick 124, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick126
Rnd4
Patrick Payton
A wild overpay on Patrick Payton in pick No. 126, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick155
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
A straight-up fair deal on Le'Veon Moss at the 155th pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick194
Rnd6
J.Michael Sturdivant
They went early on J.Michael Sturdivant in No. 194, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jack Velling
They did well to land Jack Velling in the 229th pick, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick248
Rnd7
Shamar Porter
They read the board right and Shamar Porter was the payoff at the 248th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
