Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
The Bears won the night they stopped Brown from sliding. Grade: B+. Somebody in pick 229 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Barion Brown, the No. 187 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Mills reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick48
Rnd2
Zane Durant
A straight-up fair deal on Zane Durant at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to the 59th pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick65
Rnd3
CJ Allen
CJ Allen in pick No. 65 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in the 80th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick81
Rnd3
Jonah Coleman
Nothing to complain about; Jonah Coleman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick120
Rnd4
Samuel Omosigho
They went early on Samuel Omosigho in Round 4, Pick 18, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick126
Rnd4
Monroe Mills
A reach for Monroe Mills in No. 126; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jahiem White
Jahiem White in slot 155 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick194
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
They will replay Xavier Nwankpa at Round 6, Pick 18 for years; that is how good the value is. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick229
Rnd7
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at the 229th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Ethan Onianwa
Ethan Onianwa at slot 248 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
