Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Lions. Nobody else had Eric Gentry anywhere near No. 222. The Lions did, by 90 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Louis falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Monroe Freeling
In the 26th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor in No. 50 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick60
Rnd2
Caden Curry
This one needs a full-page explanation: Caden Curry in pick 60, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick118
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
Hezekiah Masses at Round 4, Pick 18 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick155
Rnd5
Kyle Louis
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kyle Louis at pick No. 155. It fills a real need, too.
Pick186
Rnd6
Bud Clark
They paid up for Bud Clark at slot 186 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick203
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon at Round 6, Pick 24 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick212
Rnd6
Keyron Crawford
They left a pile of value on the table to take Keyron Crawford this early at the Round 6 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick222
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in pick 222 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
