LJ DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

Draft Grade — Packers

The Packers let Lachey fall into their laps, and walked away with a D. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Darius Alexander in pick 87.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Shemar Stewart
In pick 23 they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick54
Rnd2
Trey Amos
Nothing to complain about; Trey Amos went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at slot 87 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick106
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
They barely believed it either: Donovan Jackson still on the board at Round 4, Pick 5. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick123
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 123. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick160
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A reach for Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick No. 160; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200
Rnd6
Seth McLaughlin
Value said wait; Seth McLaughlin in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick239
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
They will replay Luke Lachey at the 239th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick251
Rnd7
Kyren Lacy
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kyren Lacy this early at No. 251. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
