The Packers did enough to get by: C. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Isaiah Davis a full 139 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Isaiah Davis
In No. 25 they get a workhorse for the backfield, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at pick No. 41 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 58 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick91
Rnd3
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 28, where Dadrion Taylor-Demerson graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. slipping to pick 123 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick126
Rnd4
Javon Foster
They did well to land Javon Foster in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick169
Rnd5
Marist Liufau
Steal is underselling it; Marist Liufau at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick202
Rnd6
Myles Harden
They will replay Myles Harden at the 202nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219
Rnd6
Garret Greenfield
They took Garret Greenfield at par in pick 219, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick245
Rnd7
Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones at No. 245 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
The board fumbled Tyler Owens all the way to pick No. 247, and they scooped it up. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick255
Rnd7
Tayvion Robinson
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tayvion Robinson in Round 7, Pick 35, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
