James should have been long gone. The Lions pounced, and earned a A-. The real work happened on the phones. The Lions fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
The James steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick43
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
A tidy little value on Darius Robinson in the 43rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Christian Haynes worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100
Rnd3
DJ James
Circle this one: DJ James at Round 3, Pick 37 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick153
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Nothing to complain about; Luke McCaffrey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
