Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Lions robbed the room for Henderson. Final grade: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Lions were there to profit. LaDarius Henderson, the No. 174 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 30. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The Wilson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at Round 1, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jonah Elliss
Jonah Elliss slid further than he should have, and pick 59 is lovely value for the edge rusher. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Frazier at No. 84, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick91 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
A reach for Luke Lachey in the 91st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick127 Rnd4 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick164 Rnd5 Ashton Gillotte
No drama and no debate, Ashton Gillotte went about where he belonged in pick No. 164. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick205 Rnd6 LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in the 205th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick248 Rnd7 Kamal Hadden
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamal Hadden at slot 248. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
