Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Lions checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Lions started one anyway for Jaleel Johnson, 68 picks ahead of schedule.

They punted on offensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lacy.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Chris Cole
In pick No. 25 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Kewan Lacy
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kewan Lacy at the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89 Rnd3 Peyton Bowen
Peyton Bowen at pick 89 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127 Rnd4 Amare Ferrell
A clean, defensible pick in the 127th overall pick with a little surplus value in Amare Ferrell. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick162 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A reach on Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the 162nd pick; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick205 Rnd6 J'Mond Tapp
J'Mond Tapp at Round 6, Pick 25 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jaleel Johnson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaleel Johnson this early at pick 216. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick246 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brett Norfleet well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick254 Rnd7 Antonio Kite
Antonio Kite at the 254th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
