FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Lions, and a B- to prove it. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Lions took Eugene Wilson III a full 24 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Andrew Sprague
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a blindside protector, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on A'Mauri Washington. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick60
Rnd2
Sammy Omosigho
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Sammy Omosigho. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jaylen McClain
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen McClain at pick No. 91, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick118
Rnd4
Eugene Wilson III
A wild overpay on Eugene Wilson III in the 118th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick155
Rnd5
DJ McKinney
They took DJ McKinney at par in pick 155, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick186
Rnd6
Sam Huard
A premium they did not need to pay, Sam Huard a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick203
Rnd6
Charles Jagusah
A reach on Charles Jagusah in the 203rd pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick212
Rnd6
Justice Haynes
By-the-book stuff, Justice Haynes at pick 212 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick222
Rnd7
Niki Prongos
A reach for Niki Prongos in Round 7, Pick 6; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
