Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Lions won the night they stopped Johnson from sliding. Grade: B.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Cornelius Johnson, the 248th pick, roughly 37 picks past where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

They are betting Lachey proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In the 27th pick they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Javon Foster
Javon Foster in No. 59 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick84 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke Lachey this early at slot 84. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91 Rnd3 Adisa Isaac
They paid sticker price for Adisa Isaac in Round 3, Pick 28, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in pick 127; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick164 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Lathan Ransom. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick205 Rnd6 Ricky Pearsall
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ricky Pearsall in the 205th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick248 Rnd7 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson in pick No. 248 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
