FutureC-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Lions for Smith-Wade: C+. You could see the war room lean forward. Chau Smith-Wade at slot 210 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
Reaching for Hunt left real value on the table behind him. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick53
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at the 53rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick61
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall at pick 61 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
No drama and no debate, Kamari Lassiter went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
A wild overpay on Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 3, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jalyx Hunt
A big swing on Jalyx Hunt at No. 93, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
Nice patience on Jalen McMillan, who had no business lasting to pick No. 113. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick126
Rnd4
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in the 126th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick132
Rnd4
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in slot 132 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick189
Rnd6
Decamerion Richardson
They will replay Decamerion Richardson at pick 189 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick210
Rnd6
Chau Smith-Wade
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at the 210th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
