Draft Grade — Lions
Overall
D-
ValueC-
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Lions got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. The Lions clearly saw something nobody else did in Eric Gentry, taking him 83 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, safety very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
T.J. Parker
In the 17th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker in No. 50 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91
Rnd3
Trinidad Chambliss
They reached a country mile for Trinidad Chambliss at pick 91, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick95
Rnd3
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Treydan Stukes
A real head-scratcher, Treydan Stukes in pick No. 109 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick118
Rnd4
Pat Coogan
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Pat Coogan. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick126
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
They reached into another round for Charles Jagusah, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146
Rnd5
Rayshaun Benny
Value said wait; Rayshaun Benny in slot 146 says they were not listening. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick155
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
They did well to land Chase Roberts in No. 155, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick186
Rnd6
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick203
Rnd6
Keyron Crawford
Keyron Crawford at Round 6, Pick 24 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick212
Rnd6
Roman Hemby
A wild overpay on Roman Hemby in pick 212, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick222
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Kacmarek well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
