DREDD DRAFTING FOR THELions

Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

FutureB-
The Lions kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The Lions did not so much draft Kris Abrams-Draine as overpay for him, 28 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Lions had louder needs to answer first. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
JT Tuimoloau
They paid sticker price for JT Tuimoloau in pick No. 28, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A clean, defensible pick in No. 60 with a little surplus value in T'Vondre Sweat. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick73
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in Round 3, Pick 9 leaves offensive lineman, safety and other spots for later.
Pick91
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kris Abrams-Draine in pick 91, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick165
Rnd5
Theo Wease Jr.
A conviction pick on Theo Wease Jr. at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick206
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
They jumped the gun on Dwight McGlothern, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249
Rnd7
Erick All
Erick All in the 249th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
