The Lions let Taylor-Demerson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. You could see the war room lean forward. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 105th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Ceaser reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In slot 19 they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at pick 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick61
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in the 61st pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
They let Kris Abrams-Draine come to them and pounced at No. 91. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick105
Rnd4
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in Round 4, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick110
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
Elijah Jones in the 110th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick137
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
They paid up for Mason McCormick at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick154
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg is a better player than pick No. 154 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick155
Rnd5
Nelson Ceaser
A reach for Nelson Ceaser in the 155th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
