FutureA
No fireworks, just a tidy B+ for the Lions. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Lions never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.
Landing Cooper that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If Robinson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick61
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Nice patience on Edgerrin Cooper, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick73
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
They took Mike Sainristil at par in pick No. 73, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
A tidy little value on Braelon Allen in the 112th pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick133
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
A clean, defensible pick in the 133rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Johnny Wilson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick164
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson in slot 164 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick172
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden in Round 5, Pick 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick201
Rnd6
M.J. Devonshire
Value with a capital V on M.J. Devonshire in No. 201, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Kalen DeLoach
Kalen DeLoach in pick 249 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
